I am keen to show my support within my local community and for national charities. Charities were devastated by the pandemic, losing over £6 billion in revenue in just one year. Run by volunteers, these charities need our support.
My way to help is to offer donations through art giveaways, discounted pieces and a portion of my sales each year.
At each event, I support a variety of charities. For 2024 my chosen charity is Refuge.
Annual Online Artists Auction
Each February to celebrate the month of love, 20 - 25 artists gift a piece of work to go into a random draw for our chosen charity. Participants donate via a Just Giving page and donor name and artist are randomly matched. The artist sends their work directly to the winner.
In 2023 25 artists raised over £500 in less than 10 days which all proceeds going directly to UNICEF Earthquake Disaster fund.
For 2024 23 artists are donating art and craft for Refuge Charity, a charity that supports women to live a life free from violence and fear. Funds raised will help change and may even save a life.
Each year, I participate in an Instagram charity postcard giveaway, held around the 14 February. I usually do this February-March, as time allows for marbling and lino cut block printing.
It is a wonderful way of sharing the joy of marbling and paying forward goodwill. I marble and press print postcards and offer these free of charge to the recipients, trusting that they will pay the artwork donation they can afford to their chosen charity.
Initially this was set up by printmaker John Peddar in 2018, to raise money for food banks, this charity giveaway has grown in the printmaking community, with more and more charities benefitting from the generosity of the printmaking and art community on Instagram. It's a privilege to be participating each year and to receive other artist’s beautiful work to donate to my chosen charity of the year.
The Great Charity Pottery and Print Fair @thegreatcharitypotandprintfair
I was so pleased to participate in the online charity auction, with over 300 exceptional potters and printmakers across the UK. I offered 50% discount on my lino-cut marble prints and auctioned a marbled leather item. All donations went to my chosen charities for that year, Trussle Trust (food banks) UNICEF and Woodland Trust.
Twitter Art Exhibit #TAE
Each June, X (Formerly known as Twitter) picked a charity and a country and exhibits postcards sent in by artists from across the globe. They hold an online charity auction, plus an in-person auction in the venue over 3 days. It’s been a privilege to part of this worldwide exhibition for a number of years.
