The START apron is named for one of my favourite coastal walks near Start Point Lighthouse, a working lighthouse in the most exposed point of the Devon coast, which has been guiding ships through the English Chanel since 1836.
Each apron is made to order as a commission, so you, the customer, can choose the finished design, request any additions, like a third pen pocket, or decrease the length, or even split the apron skirt, which I have done for a potter on a previous commission, the thread colour for any stitching, and much more.
The rich liquorice colour of Dark Oak veg-tanned leather is sourced locally from a a tannery in Devon. The apron’s pocket is hand-stitched and assembled using British made fixings. The marbling pattern is in a heritage craft Stone Swirl, double layered, using colours of your choice.
Using leather as the material, makes for a durable, long-lasting apron, suitable for any artisan or craftsman. The apron is hand-stitched using traditional saddle stitch, for strength. There’s also the option to personalise your apron with choice of marbled or plain leather pocket and emboss your initials, name, or company logo. Each apron is branded, for authenticity, showing British craftsmanship.

A bit about the marbling...
Marbling is an endangered heritage craft, typically seen in books and paper products. The marbling pattern image is a representation only and may differ slightly as each pattern made is one of a kind, as the paints move on the surface of the water. For more information on marbling, visit my Marbling page.
A bit about the leather...
The veg tanned leather comes from a sustainable tannery here in Devon, where they use a slow and considered process, taking up to 15 months to tan a hide, turning it into supple leather. The hides are from Devon and Cornish herds. The full grain leather is intact, with natural marks and imperfections on the surface of the hide. In my opinion, it is the best British leather available and the fact that it is a sustainable by-product from the food industry and 100% compostable at the end of its long life, makes this an eco-conscious product.
