STUDIO WORKSHOPS
My new studio will be ready for marbling and leatherwork workshops from late Spring/Summer 2025 here in Devon. Dates for my studio workshops will be announced here, in my monthly newsletter and on social media.
Introduction to heritage paper ink marbling + simple bookmaking £45
10.00am-4.30pm
Class size: 4-6
You’ll spend the day learning the ancient art of Suminagashi ink marbling, playing with Japanese colour ink and learning bookmaking skills. In the morning you will learn how to prepare your space, your paper and learn the importance of mindful breath-work to create your organic patterns. After lunch, you will make two stitched books using your marbled papers and an origami folded bookmark. We have a few lovely places to eat close by, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch. Refreshments are provided throughout the day.
Class sizes are small, so you’ll get focussed attention. Booking will be available via my website here

You’ll spend the day learning the ancient art of marbling, playing with colour and learning bookmaking skills. In the morning you will learn how to prepare your paper and marble basic European patterns. After lunch, you will make two stitched books and a silk hassled bookmark using your marbled papers. Introduction to leatherwork + make a clutch bag with saddle stitched pockets £145
10.00am-4.30pm
Class size: 2 You’ll choose your leather for the body of the clutch bag, including an internal pocket, an external marbled leather pocket, a marbled strap and fixings. You’ll learn how to cut your pattern pieces, using templates, prepare the leather and make the stitch marks. Using a stitch pony, you will learn to saddle stitch, to attach your pocket and assemble your bag.
During the day you’ll learn about the tools to use for leatherwork, saddle stitching, types of leather to work with and how to care for your bag. Class sizes are limited to two people, so you’ll get focussed individual attention.
We have a few lovely places to eat close by, or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch. Refreshments are provided throughout the day.

Marbling Residential Course
Join me on a residential marbling course, held over 3 days in this beautiful venue set in an iconic arts college, near Chichester, West Sussex.
Over the 3 days, you will learn how to prepare your papers and fabric to marble and what paints and inks to use. You will be taught the ancient art of Suminagashi ink marbling and the colourful European acrylic marbling using simple tools and combs.
You will finish the course creating a silk scarf, a stitched notebook and a lantern using your beautiful marbling pattern fabrics and papers.
All materials, tools, aprons and gloves are provided. Cost of course includes accommodation and meals.
Bring a notebook. Wear old clothes and shoes as the paint tends to splash.

I spent a day teaching Year 10 students the ancient art of Japanese ink marbling. Students created Japanese stitch bound books for the exhibition using sustainable tea bag paper.

Workshop: The Creative Dimensions Trust, London
20-23 August 2024
Students aged 14-19 years. An intensive 4 day course, including Suminagashi, Ebru and European marbling on paper and textiles. A great introduction to surface pattern design and its applications for a few products. Students used their marbled papers to make books and lanterns. The group worked collaboratively to make 18 silk panels for a window display for Fortnum and Mason.
