European Acrylic Marbling and Bookbinding Workshop

Discover the heritage art of European marbling and the joy of bookmaking. A perfect activity for adults looking to explore their creativity and learn a new skill in this educational and informative workshop. Class sizes are small for focussed attention.
You will learn the techniques used to create unique and beautiful marbled heritage patterns on paper and card, whilst experiencing the therapeutic benefits of this meditative process.
During the morning you will be guided through the process of preparing your papers, acrylic paints and your marbling bath. You will watch a demonstration of each step, before being guided to create your own marbling patterns on small practice papers, before creating patterns on larger papers and card. You will earn a number of basic patterns, leading up to a more complex pattern using combs or rakes.
In the afternoon, you will be taught how to create a folded, concertina style book and a traditional stab-bound Japanese stitched bound book. Both books contain inner quality cartridge paper, suitable for your artwork, poetry and collaging.
During this fun workshop, you will be required to stand over the marbling bath for some of the morning. If you have a disability, please let me know, so I may set up the workshop to accommodate your needs. Access to the studio is via steps, but we have alternative flat access for those who struggle to use steps. Unfortunately the studio cannot accommodate a wheelchair.
All materials, an apron and gloves are provided. I suggest wearing old clothing and shoes in case paint splashes.
